Water-based paints

Antimicrobial efficacy testing category

In-can preservation of water-based paints

Assessment of the microbial stability and preservative efficacy of water-based paints, emulsion paints and comparable coating systems under microbial challenge.

Available test methods

Water-based paints and coating systems may become contaminated with microorganisms during manufacture, storage or use. The following test methods assess preservative efficacy, microbial stability and resistance to microbial contamination in the container. Depending on the testing objective, the test design, challenge organisms, product concentration and test duration can be adapted to the specific project.

In-can preservation of water-based paints

IBRG P16-001

Assessment of the basic efficacy of biocidal active substances for the preservation of water-based paints and coating systems under microbial challenge using repeated inoculation cycles.
