Water hygiene
Hygiene of dialysis water systems
Testing water from dialysis water systems for microbiological hygiene monitoring.
Microbiological monitoring of dialysis water
Dialysis water systems require particular attention to hygiene monitoring. The microbiological quality of the treated water and the presence of bacterial endotoxins are important factors in assessing water quality.
We test water from dialysis water systems. The agreed scope of testing may include total viable counts and bacterial endotoxin determination. Endotoxins are measured using a kinetic Limulus amoebocyte lysate (LAL) assay, either turbidimetric (Turbi-LAL) or chromogenic (Chromo-LAL).
The scope depends on the system, the specific enquiry, sampling conditions and applicable requirements. If needed, we can advise you on a suitable scope of testing.
Dialysis water & biofilm
Testing tailored to the system, enquiry and monitoring objective
Biofilms can develop in water systems. Microorganisms, endotoxins and other microbial components can affect water hygiene. Regular monitoring of water quality is therefore an important part of quality assurance in dialysis water systems.
Depending on the enquiry, testing may cover microbiological parameters and bacterial endotoxins. Tests are selected according to the system, monitoring objective and agreed requirements.
If unusual results or recurring concerns arise, we can help you interpret the test results and select suitable further analyses.
Total viable count
Assessment of microbial contamination in water from dialysis water systems within an agreed scope of testing.
Endotoxin determination
Determination of bacterial endotoxins using Turbi-LAL or Chromo-LAL. Where required, Glucashield® is used to suppress interference from (1→3)-β-D-glucans in the LAL assay. Additional glucan testing can be arranged where relevant to the enquiry.
Biofilm and ongoing monitoring
Expert advice on recurring findings or enquiries about the microbiological stability of the system.
