Endotoxin analysis

Custom endotoxin analysis

Endotoxin analysis for special sample types, complex matrices and individual project requirements.

Endotoxin analysis for specific testing requirements

Some samples cannot be clearly assigned to a standard category such as solids, liquids, extracts or surfaces. In these cases, a tailored approach to endotoxin analysis may be appropriate.

At our microbiological laboratory, we help you assess your sample and determine which testing approach may be suitable for your enquiry. This can be particularly relevant to complex matrices, special sample types or investigations for specific applications.

The scope of testing depends on the sample type, matrix, enquiry, required reporting basis and methodological feasibility. Depending on the sample and matrix, endotoxins are determined using a kinetic Limulus amoebocyte lysate (LAL) assay: either turbidimetric (Turbi-LAL) or chromogenic (Chromo-LAL).

Special samples & feasibility

Testing tailored to the sample, matrix and objective

Custom endotoxin analysis is suitable for enquiries where a standard testing approach requires further technical assessment before it can be applied. The key factors are the sample properties, required reporting basis and analytical feasibility.

Potential effects of the sample matrix are taken into account during endotoxin testing. These may include turbidity, colour, pH, residues, and inhibitory or enhancing effects.

If testing is not technically appropriate or cannot be carried out within the requested scope, we explain this and discuss possible alternatives or adjustments to the test design.

Where needed, Glucashield® is used to suppress interference caused by (1→3)-β-D-glucans in the LAL assay. Additional glucan testing can be arranged where relevant to the enquiry.

Feasibility

Technical assessment of the sample

Assessing whether and how endotoxin determination can be carried out appropriately for the sample.

Matrix

Accounting for interference

Assessment of potential matrix effects that may influence endotoxin determination or require adjustments to the test design.

Test design

An agreed approach

Selection of suitable methods, sample preparation and reporting according to the sample, objective and available range of services.
