Endotoxin analysis for different sample types
Endotoxins
Determination of bacterial endotoxins in different sample types according to an agreed scope of testing.
Endotoxin analysis for different sample types
Endotoxins are lipopolysaccharides, abbreviated as LPS, from the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. Depending on the sample type, application and route of exposure, their determination may be relevant to hygiene, product quality or process control.
Depending on the sample and matrix, bacterial endotoxins are determined using a kinetic Limulus amoebocyte lysate (LAL) assay: either the turbidimetric (Turbi-LAL) or chromogenic (Chromo-LAL) method. Samples may include solids, liquids, aqueous extracts, process water, dialysis water, surface samples and other sample types. A suitable testing approach depends on the sample, matrix and methodological feasibility.

Testing tailored to individual sample types, complex matrices or specific enquiries, following a technical feasibility assessment.
Learn moreIn endotoxin testing, potential effects of the sample matrix are taken into account. These may include chemical composition, turbidity, colour, and inhibitory or enhancing effects. The choice of a suitable LAL method depends on the enquiry, matrix and methodological feasibility. Where needed, Glucashield® is used to suppress interference caused by (1→3)-β-D-glucans in the LAL assay. Additional glucan testing can be arranged where relevant to the enquiry.
